Welcome SFBA Chapter Member,

In this session, Hector will share real-world lessons from more than 30 years of experience in workplace violence prevention, threat assessment, and security leadership. Participants will walk away with a better understanding of how to recognize concerning behavior early, respond more effectively to potential threats, and build prevention programs that are both practical and compliant.

Hector is a nationally recognized expert in workplace violence prevention, specializing in Behavioral Threat Assessment and Management. With over 30 years of experience, he has a deep understanding of the challenges organizations and leaders face when managing workplace violence risks. His career spans roles as a Security Director protecting critical national infrastructure, a Police Officer, and as Founder and Principal Consultant of Alvarez Associates LLC, a firm providing workplace violence prevention, threat assessment, and management services. Hector holds a BS in Criminal Justice and an MS in Forensic Psychology. He is a Certified Threat Manager (TM) recognized by the Association of Threat Assessment Professionals (ATAP) and serves as the Sgt. at Arms for the Northern California Chapter of ATAP. Additionally, Hector attended Gavin DeBecker’s Advanced Threat Assessment Academy and is a certified instructor in Mental Health First Aid. 

His experience includes:

  • Responding to thousands of incidents involving threatening or concerning behavior, providing expert assistance in assessing and managing potentially dangerous individuals and situations.
  • Helping hundreds of public and private organizations build and enhance their violence prevention programs while ensuring regulatory compliance.
  • Offering litigation support to both plaintiffs and defendants in numerous high-profile workplace violence cases.
  • Training thousands of employees in the recognition, prevention, assessment, and management of workplace violence.
  • Participating in the development of California's healthcare-focused workplace violence regulations, Sections 3342 and 3343, for the general industry.
  • Speaking and presenting at industry and professional association events on the topics of targeted violence prevention, behavioral threat assessment and management, and workplace safety
